David: The Shepherd King and the Shape of the Messiah

Shepherd. Warrior. Poet. King. Sinner. David is one of the most beloved — and complicated — figures in the Bible.

In this four-part Inspire study, we will follow David from the fields of Bethlehem to the throne of Israel: his surprising anointing, his victory over Goliath, God’s promise to establish his house, and finally the devastating story of his failure as king. Along the way, we will discover how David’s story shaped Israel’s hope for a Messiah — and why the failures as well as the triumphs of David ultimately point beyond him toward Jesus.

Using the Literary, Theological, Kingdom of God, and Ethical lenses, we will read these familiar stories afresh, wondering together what they reveal about God, ourselves, and Jesus Christ, the Son of David.
