A New Place for Prayer

Reflections from Alan and Liz Wilkes

Our new votive candle stand is a gift, partially sponsored by Alan and Liz Wilkes, inspired by their experience at St. Dunstan’s. Unable to find a suitable stand to purchase, they approached their farrier, Bruce Hague, who kindly designed and constructed one for St. Mark’s.

Liz reflects:

“Lighting a candle each time I come to St. Mark’s helps me focus my thoughts and prayers, if only for a moment, and send my heartfelt desire for someone else’s wellbeing heavenward.”

Alan reflects:

“My devotion to lighting candles began four years ago, when I lost a dear friend from university. Lighting a candle helped me remember our times together. Now, I light candles in gratitude for my blessings and offer prayers for those in need of comfort.”

We are grateful to Alan and Liz for this thoughtful sponsirship, and to Bruce for his craftsmanship. May this become a cherished place of prayer, remembrance, and thanksgiving for our parish community.
