Work
We are here in Jerusalem on a Sabbatical work/study program. For the work portion, Holly and I have been trained to take an eight hour breakfast and lunch shift three days a week. We will serve about fifty to a hundred people at each meal. I used to work in restaurants when I was in High School and I am reminded again of how physical the work is. It gives me a renewed appreciation for our wonderful Men’s Club who prepare, serve and clean up after community meals throughout the year – even for over two hundred people!
The blessing in the work portion of this Sabbatical is two-fold; it has helped us keep the costs down for our time in Jerusalem and it has brought us right into the heart of the community life here in Christ Church. We have made friends as we work shoulder to shoulder with some very lovely people. These people have come from all over the world, many of them as volunteers. They will commit anywhere from three months to two years, because the Lord has led them to serve in this place. This community has been such a blessing to Holly and I, in their friendship, support and daily practical advice.
